been a little while since i've updated

so im finally home... and i realised that i need a steed with which to commute to and from work with, so i got together this here franken bike complete with basket.... i have been dreaming of this thing for a long time a flat bar single speed front and rear brake freewheelin basketed beast of burden.... and today i made it happen with used cables and housing and od parts i had sitting around. the best part was that the basket wouldnt fit so i went over to maintanence and used thier angle grinder to shave some metal and make everything more agreeable betwixt bicycle and basket. i also chopped the bars down to the same width as the basket on the back so i know by feel just how wide my bici is when dodging inbetween those infamous new york plated suburbans.... its fun as hell and looks good too... only things i might add would likely be a hanle bar mounted light that i would keep the batter ziptied to a front wheel mounted basket that would be on either side of the wheel panier style in the same fashion as the rear basket.... also a blinker on the back and i may eventually be convinced to rock some fenders for those less than lovlely days that are oh so common here in the 413.... anyways that is all....

just finished the first portrait of mellisa ball one of my art professors. i'm VERY excited with how well it came out. In case you dont know the three boxes with letters above her head are the icons for photoshop, indesign, and adobe illustrator, all incredibly important design programs for graphic design.

day one- having just dropped 95.37 on paint i wanted to put it on the wall right then and there! started and out and had a horrible first day the blue sky on the far left came out looking like blue and green camo with semen flying everywhere....

this is such a huge moment for me as an artist, i had just painted blue over the blue and green camo with the semen and just tried again in a different way, i stumbled on this new technique that got me the vangogh look i was really digging for, it took alot of hard looking at the wall but it came to me!

big jump forward, have all of the back ground done and am starting to work on supporting elements each layer is a process i've decided to go background-supporting elments and finish with the portraits i was so sick of painting swirls by the end of the background i was pumped to start working on the other stuff like the camera and the cieling fan that i was close to finishing today!

i pretty much live in and own this stair well at this point, people are always worried they are going to knock me off the ladder but i haven't fallen yet, i think the worst so far was when i dropped a paint brush with out paint but nothing major yet! thus far my color choices have been good with only a few minor complaints here and there, but aside from that not alot!

Welp its been quite an interesting vacation thus far... in case i havent mentioned im staying with diego in miami. he lives on a horse farm (30 acres) which has been likely the most relaxing atmosphere i could have asked for after such an eventful semester that really ended wit a bit of a kick in the pants. so far life has been pretty simple: ride, sleep in the hammock, watch the horses, shoot coconuts, speak spanish, play with puppies.... all the ordinary stuff for a columbian american horse farm.... i am having a blast but i do miss my friends and family terribly.... mom,dad, big sherm, summi, and HEATHER i miss you all a whole lot but dont worry after the columbian christmas fiesta i just got home from im sure i wont have a problem sleeping alone in this hammock (amoka) tonight!

been doing a lot of riding lately, my most interesting excursion as of late was down to the old rail road grade
it goes along for quite a while, following, you guessed it, the old railroad. it goes through some sweet little cavern type things

well i got to the end of it where we usually take a cut off to get back to the main road, and surprise surprise there was a way that you could actually keep going, and it was paved! so i kept going, and it turned into a dirt road and then the dirt road stopped and it was more of just a horse path and then the horse path started being filled with giant man eating puddles:

well i thoought that was the end of it, but surprise again, it wasnt there was a barely rideable foot path off to the right that brought you right around the gian puddles, so i rode that and then it went back to nice horse path for a little while, but i came around a corner and there was a rotted out railroad bridge with nothing left but the spanners going across....

well at this point i thought for sure my path had come to an end.... but then i really looked at the bridge, and noticed that it was going right into the side of a mountain... and sure enough i looked a little harder, and there appeared to be a tunnel!

naturally i shimmied across the bridge about forty to forty five feet in the air to check it out. and sure enough it WAS a tunnel! and it WAS wicked cool!

all in all it was pretty awesome. good ride... well gotta go to work...

Welp, i have come to the re-realization that i in fact hate swimming in the pool and any pool for that matter. after lifting with winger last night we went for a swim in the newly renovated pool. and today i feel like hell, my head is all blocked up and i am blaming it entirely on the chlorinated abomination that we call a pool at our college. ok in reality its really nice, however i think that i am just incredibly sensitive to chlorinated water in my sinus cavity....

in other news, we got a free xmas tree/ ornaments....

little side story, heather and i went to a xmas store in order to get some personalized ornaments, you know the kind with the entire rack that has every name imaginable....well yeah

heather decided that she needed a picture with santa claus

then we saw this, and the first thing out of my mouth, was "BIG SHERM!!!" yep you guessed it, cotton plant. perfect christmas present for the biggest most loving black man i know

so i got scott a little sled ornament with a snowman on it that had his name on it "scott" then i made him hang it on the tree so i could take a picture of him doing and and thus prove that he is in fact not a complete scrooge.

what have i been up to lately? well let me tell you. not a whole lot... stayed in the high country for thanksgiving break and now im back in school hitting the ground running. its going to take a small miracle for me to make it to the end of this semester alive. with more work than ever, and with more bull shit to put up with IE jumping through the hoops of freshman year courses that i should have taken FRESMAN YEAR!

oh well what are you going to do...

ive put up my christmas tree and ornaments everything xmas related in this picture was GIVEN TO ME FOR FREE!!!! pretty sweet. now all i have to do is bust out the construction paper chains and the threaded popcorn strings, pick up a tree topper, and i should be good to go...

scott and i have decided that there wont be any lights on out tree due to the outrageous power bills we are already paying...
ive decided to bring back the sideburns i used to rock back in highschool. pretty stoked...
and ive been baking all sorts of things, cookies, muffins, pumpkin pies, and this here beautiful apple pie!

aside from that ive been secretly training a fuck lot for me at this time of year. ive just managed to find a strange pocket of motivation that i dont usually have at this time of the year... i just keep thinking about how sweet it would be to rape little scenester crit babies all next season....

saturday was some of the worst/best (depending on how you look at it) in that i got almost 3 hours in at about 34 degrees, while getting rained on the whole time. it was one of those rides that going to turn me into a "hard man" much like sean kelly...

anyways thats all for now, sorry if this post seems sort of like a jumble, im in class half paying attention half blogging...

long story short, that whole moving to a new blog thing didnt really work out, while it worked way better than blogger, they wanted a hundred bucks to a year to keep it going at the end of my free trial so naturally being a stingy college kid i said , welp seeeee ya later!

as for what i have been doing here are some pictures....

i've been roofing for habitat for humanity

over the past week i have been slowly mastering the art of sober partying... i find that a sweet pair of sunglasses and a bunch of coffee and you can totally party like a rock star, and you dont have to pay for beer!

got snuck onto the field for an app state game so i could shoot a little bit, but of course like a dumb ass i forgot my telephoto and was stuck with wide angle...doesnt work to well for shooting football games...

scott crashed and fell on his face and messed his shit up...

i got me a girlfriend, her name is heather, shes pretty cool (our ears are the same size)

i shot my first wedding, it was cool, lot of work

got some good shots dude...hell yeah....

and i'm considering picking up some piercings... this one isnt real (and i realize it looks ridiculous) its just one of my earings shoved in my nose, but im considering getting my septum redone and a medusa potentially

another weekend, another road trip, another race.

this weekend seems to be the exemption to the rule however... last night is when it all started. ill let the pictures tell the story.

it all started off with me having to say good bye to taylor. she is so cute, the other day while she was at school i drank the last of the chocolate milk, and when she came home and it was time for dinner she came up to me and began shaking the empty milk carton at me and saying, "WHAT HAPPENED?!" i've never felt so bad in my life, but she is so cute!

steve's dad picked me up and we went to all seasons the bike shop that sponsors the team and also the place that miraculously employs mr. stephen meyer seen here modeling the latest in allseasons line of tri-geek wear.

all seasons has many nice things, and seems to carry predominately mid to high end bikes. check out these sweet ass easton carbon high profile track tubulars

and here are some bikes that i really liked, this one a "commencal" is a mtb company out of france (go figure non?) and i really would love to own her, i would name popsicle and rider her all over lees-mcrae campus

this one is a khs that i realy like, its only 450! and is all straight guague aluminum no nonsense commuter!

i am actually seriously considering buying this root beer brown beauty, its a 29er single speed, pretty sick.

like i said sweet ass bikes.

then me stevie and stevie's parents all piled into the car and drove the four some odd ours to millford ontario where i now address you from!

we got in at 1230 in the morning, and immediatley stevie and i began looking to see if there was wireless, and there was! we connected to the router only to find that the internet connection feeding the router was down, so we went to bed...

and we woke up this morning to find that we were staying in what could be the single nicest bed and breakfast in the world:miller's house bed and breakfast

i got up and went down stairs where the owner bob served me the single nicest breakfast that i have ever had, super yummy big thick bacon, organic from the farmer that morning eggs on rich whole grain toast with a spring vegetable mixed salad! delicious!

this is stevie and i's room, its sort of a renevated attic, but its sweet

the door to our room is pretty small, steve is 6'1" so that will give you some sort of idea for as to how small the door to our room is, its pretty funny, but its such a cozy little room. (not the shameless plug for coachchris.ca/tedvelikonja elite cycling)

this picture best describes how i feel. after the weekend of racing that transpired from friday till sunday night, i'm feeling a little rough around the edges. todays ride was rough, had some leg speed intervals to do, and i just felt like shit, couldnt get my heart rate up to save my life. and then it rained, excues me, i mean poured. but coach assures me that it is ok, that its just because i was playing with symetrics, team race pro, and jet fuel all weekend...

whatever, just sleep, eat some chicken, and i should be right as rain in a few days...

tonight was toronto twilight. the fastest race i have ever done. it was amazing. i finished 29th (out of 100 starters) which i was happy with but i feel i could have done better had i not cramped towards the end. the first have i didnt leave the top 20 it was awesome, surfing the front with symetrics, team race pro, and jetfuel. ive never had so much fun on a bike in my life (only exemption being the trip kristi and i made to the todd railroad grade.

the course was lined with people and they were all screaming for us. at one point a move went that coach told me through the earbud was likely to stick so i jumped across on the home straight and the announcer was yelling "here goes a coachchris rider!!!!" ive neve been so pumped.

i just need to race with shit in my bottles....

got some more track time in on the 'drome tonight... it was pretty rad. in case you havent heard, the first not on it wasn't that great, i almost died/ crashed hard three times within my first lap, even including my cog coming unthreaded and me cruise coasting around the track like a fucking tomohawk missile out of control.

anyways tonight was pretty sweet, my new team mate steve myer was there so i got to ride with him. much thanks to greg palmer for taking me to and from the track, as well as snapping some good photos for the old blogger, as you can tell i selected one of his shots for the new background!

it was good, we got in some good training, its hard this steep turned buisness, i can fell the g-force taking its toll on me during hard efforts, its like its extra work to stay up and no feel like your being pressed into the surface of the track, even though you constantly are.

well its a national holiday in canada today, something about queen victoria's birthday being on the 24th, getting things kicking off early, and any excuse to buy a 24 (slang for a case of beer) and go camping and get drunk underage... well thats what they tel me.

i'm just sitting here in the basement and checking my email every five minutes. waiting for an update on something cool going on in the states.

one of my team mates' girlfriend amy just sent me a picture that she took during my race yesterday. i think it really captures my "hard man beard" really well, as well as the conditions and the pain that the good 'ole effingham wall put me in yesterday , i think its near the top so it doesnt really portay the steepness al that well...

yesterday night (tuesday night) i went to worlds here in london ontario, aka the local training crit. I botched my positioning a bit and we got second and third (i got third), but the win went to jeff from west haven homes. oh well.

half way through the race this guy carlos (west haven homes) comes up to me and we have this conversation:

carlos: how old are you?

me:22

carlos: i'm 45 and the other guy is 53

me: that doesnt make it any more fair

carlos: yeah but we'll always beat you

he then sprinted off. interesting way of being welcomed into the new scene i have just become a part of. i'm guessing this is the dialect of canadian english spoken by masters aged cyclist hailing from a land to the west of haven, in which you play your self off as being the man, and then insult the person with whom you are speaking. fascinating.

it's too bad the youngest member of thier team won, unfortunatley he doesn't speak this new and exciting dialect that carlos introduced me to.

aside from that though, i got to meet vince who seemed super nice, offering me a lead out with two to go. and i got to catch up with steve.

after the bout with the senile soccervan weekend warrior types, greg took me for an impromptu tour of london by car, where i shot a few pics:

toronto island

so i forgot my camera today. great. admitedly there was some good scenery, the ferry ride and the CN tower.

anyways, crit on torronto island today. drove out there and it was like 15 degrees with like 30 k wind. gay. as we're waiting for this ferry my team mate "brownie" says to me " hey i didnt really see anybody registered- we might make some money today!

as he said that there are two jet fuel guys sitting down the way and four louis garneau/crocs guys walk in. oh well.

so we get on the ferry and head over to the island. we get off. like i said roaring head wind. we get ready and warm up and line up.

the course is pretty much two straight-aways with 180 degree hairpin turns and the road was maybe a cars width:

they make it look so nice but i assure you this is not what it looked like. it was alot greyer, alot les green, covered in canadian geese, along with thier shit, and cold.

we line up and there are maybe like fifteen guys on the line. four of which are garneau croc, another (three now) jet fuel dudes, and me and brownie, and maybe a few other unnattached dudes.

oh and i forgot to mention, we had another team mate but he wasnt wearing the kit for some reason...

anyways we get going, i was feeling good and was active but i didnt make the break, which ill give you a guess who was in it....

in case you couldnt figure it out, it was a jet fuel dude and a garneau guy... so i'm thinking that i want to get across to it. so i tried a couple of times to no avail. decide to sit in a little and see what happens. sure enough one of the unattached guys gets on the front and kills it all the way along one of the straights, and brings the break back to within 200 meters. so the eight of us or whatever it is at this point come into the corner and slam on our breaks as we are all gasping for air. and it is at this point, for some reason lance armstrong the man himself flashed into my head:

so we go into this turn at like 2km/h and i sprint out of it for all i am worth in a desperate attempt to get across to the break. and i look behind me and not only am i clear, but the field is letting me go, they are all sitting up. and i'm making progress.

and thats when it all went down the shitter.

I get within about 15 meters and the garneau guy attacks the jet fuel guy and drops him. fuck. so the break is toast, i am blown, so is the nice jet fuel guy (i forgot to mention jet fuel guys are super friendly and the garneau dudes will wave at you- some times).

so there i am no mans land with the jet fuel dude. while the peleton of like seven or something stupid comes bearing down on us. sure enough after that effort i was fucked and couldnt recover, as every minute or so i was sprinting for all i was worth out of a corner....

I got dropped. first canadian race and im otb.

I guess i set my standards a little too high and didn't conserve enough... or i could just blame it on that asshole lance.

oh well. tuesday night i'm gonna try and beat up on some masters.

The Canadian chronicles start now

finally after months of waiting, i am here. got in yesterday at 430 and got to the house at five, I didnt realize it but coach was completely kidding with me when he said that it gets dark at five oclock because he lives so close to th north pole... so i managed to get a short little hours spin in... with my coach! and greg palmer who is another one of coach's clients and lives locally, i think that he is most likely going to be my tour guide for the week while coach is gone (coach is going to california for a week starting saturday). so i am pretty excited to get out and check stuff out in and around london.

so far canada is amazing. everyone is so kind and friendly, i have found myself saying "its like i'm in a different country!" sure enough- i am.

the really big difference that i have already noticed is the number of people that get out and exercise here is amazing. we went for a ride through what seemed like a "park ish" area along the bike path for about an hour, and ill tell you what, it was crazy how many people were out there running, roller blading, playing tennis, and even just taking a leisurly stroll after dinner.

The neighborhood that coach, janice, and taylor live in is super nice, it is pure suburbia, which i am really excited about, as i have always wanted to try living in suburbia. the house is really nice, i think they repainted it when they moved in in september and they painted it really pretty nice colors, the bathroom for instance is a sort of light coffee brown with a sunset orange cieling, its a super nice house!

any my room they set me up with is amazing! why might you ask? well its two words : DOUBLE BED! thats right i am sleeping on a double bed, plenty of room to stretch out and sleep anywhere i please!

so far i put up my national champion jersey, my essence of collegiate cycling calendar, and the flanders flag scott got me from belgium, oh and i put up a tack board with pictures of big sherm, kristi and family and such.... any ways heres a picture of where i am-

so far the sugoi stuff seems super nice, the chamois is fuckin lush, its like an easy boy, and the jersey is like nothing i have ever put on its a really strange material, the only way i can describe it is that it has a favorite old t-shirt feel to it, which is nothing short of extraordinary. the arm warmers are really comfy with super nice latex bands around the tops to keep them from slipping down, oh and the jerseys have holes in the middle pocket for routing your radio cables, but it doesnt jsut stop there, it also has a little elastic loop on the left shoulder on the inside to route your radio cable up to your head. its pretty pro, the only actual complaint that i have so far is that the skin suit has pockets, without zippers, but that could be easily remedied with scissor and thread, but ill wait and see, i havent actually put it on yet...

well thats all the news from Canada thus far, i hav a ride at eleven that i have to get ready for.

today went for a ride with kristi, and for a second she thought that she lost my camera, but then it turned up in the back seat of her car.

she was sad. here she was.

anyways, she leaves on monday. and then im here alone till C-day. then up to C-land.

then next weekend is ontario island crit.

Not much longer and ill be in the great white north racing bicis with my team. I am pretty excited. I've been working on this website for my team and its looking pretty good, its also my final project for advanced web design

aside from that not a whole hell of alot going on .... just chillin'

yesterday kristi and i spent about 10 hours at the coffee shop working on stuff, trying desperatley to finish up the semester.

in between stints of studying we went down to the rail road grade and got an amazing ride in. we parked at some little rinky dink park that had a river right next to it- in fact the entire ride had a river right next to it.

we saw this winner on the way through boone.
there was a pre ride wading session and an after ride swim sesh as well. all in all it was fucking amazing- the views were amazing i swear to god we had a tail wind both ways . there were wild flowers everywhere, cows and shit, it was just some straight up good old fashioned feel good ridin'

well, the collegiate season has come to an end. sadly i did not make the national team but oh well. where i am going there is no way i wont be set to go for track nats in the fall...

The home race (this past weekend) was also conference finals. and was it ever epic. of course we raced 221 for the TTT- it rained. but one of the guys on my TTT team had family there and they drew a GIANT COCK WITH WINGS on the pavement. so things werent that bad- all in all it ended up being fun.

however, the most fun of all was definitley the crit. apparently this is the only time we will be able to race that course as it is a new development road that has no houses on it but by this time next year there will be houses on it.

anyways the crit was amazing the course was super narrow straight up and straight down with one little flat stretch on the bottom. it was pretty much a power course- with only the people on the front even beginning to make the selection. people who managed (somehow) not to get pulled ended up finishing like 4 or 5 laps down on the leaders. everyone was covered in mud and soaking wet- it was amazing, and honestly i feel like i was able to put out 100 extra watts just because i pictured myself as looking like

Today I received a very kind and sincere apology from Jackie, the author of the blog post that stirred up somewhat of a "blog war" if you will.

"Went,

I did not mean to upset you or anyone else from LMC with the blog I wrote on the Auburn race. I do know a couple of the LMC girls like Kacey and Ally and I like them a lot. I have nothing against you guys as individuals, but sometimes (like at the Auburn race) it's really hard to watch your team and not get upset. You always seem so care-free and happy - something I've never been able to experience at collegiate races - because I exhaust myself driving, trying to find places to stay, taking care of my team mates who are less experienced, and doing all the director-like stuff that Doug does for you.

You have to realize what you guys look like from the outside. I know I'm not the only one who envies the awesome support you get and is intimidated by your numbers. I know that being ganged up on is part of cycling which is why (if you read my blog more carefully) I wasn't pissed off about the constant attacks I had to deal with. I was pissed off because your girls slowed down to 8mph like they were expecting me to pull through!

I would really like to get to know your team better (like you suggest) but you're very hard to approach when you're all together like you usually are.

I just got your message tonight because I was gone racing this weekend, so I'll change my blog right away. To tell you the truth, I thought my grandmother was the only one who read it.

Dear Jackie,
I would like to start off by saying, that while Lees-McRae and University of Florida’s cycling team’s have never had the best of relationships between our leaders, it is interactions like this that reaffirm my belief that it is possible for at the very least the members to get along.
I myself would like to apologize if I came off as overly harsh or attacking. I can definitely see your side that as you pointed it out, how my team and I “look like from the outside”. I guess in a way I think of the time I spend racing for Lees-McRae during the collegiate season as a sort of break from my unsupported summer race calendar. Although I will admit I receive the support of my parents as most do I feel (thanks mom!).
In response to your comments about our women’s combinations of attacks and slow speeds, this was a tactic that both our men and women’s A teams were instructed to put into action. The idea was that we would get everyone to slow and then have to jump to get back up to the speed of the attacker which we would send out, one after another. I think we managed to achieve the intended effect in the men’s race, which was to blow up the field (only 11 I think finished). But we didn’t really get the win, as was obvious. The same tactic was used for your race I believe. My personal opinion however was that with the small field size of your race, and the quality of riders from other teams, mainly Karen from Cumberland and yourself, it may not have worked as well as it did for our men’s team. It may have also left Karen and you rather annoyed.
Our usual appearance of being unapproachable that we put off is definitely something that we are aware of, and are working very hard to shed. I think a lot of times we seek parking in alternate places due to our “mega bus” as we call it, and our trailers, as was the case at Auburn, something about not wanting to get stuck in the field. In doing so though a lot of the times we alienate ourselves from the rest of the conference’s members. This is very much a personal worry of mine, and I have taken personal measures to combat it, as I know (and I am sure you do to) it’s usually best to be friends with the people you are racing against.

I look forward to hopefully introducing myself at the upcoming Clemson race this weekend, and if not there conference finals. I sincerely hope that there are no hard feelings and that in the future our teams and maybe even our respective leaders can get along, and race side by side. But don’t forget, we’re bringin’ the heat.

"At the end of the 2007 collegiate season, I vowed I wouldn't race collegiate this year (see my 'collegiate racing' post). This past weekend made me wonder why I chose to forget that vow.

The drive up was peaceful enough. We listened to music and talked and laughed at Shawn's singing (not because it was bad but because of the fearlessness with which he conquered "The Circle of Life"). When we got to the host apartment and realized there wasn't room for all ten of us - that was when the trip started to go downhill. After spending thirty minutes on the phone when I really wanted to sleep, I found a place for three of us with the Cumberland cycling team. The one girl on their team had an entire hotel room all to herself and kindly offered to share it with us.

The time trial went really well for me. It was on a flat course through the Alabama countryside. I was able to remain focused. I averaged 25.4mph over the 7.8 miles and beat second place by over a minute and a half. The road race, on the other hand, was one of the seemingly longest, most annoying races I have ever participated in. It was five versus one between me and Lees-Mcrae. My shifting was screwing up at the beginning and I missed covering the first attack. Over the course of the first lap, I chased the solo break down. The rest of the race I covered all the attacks from the LMC girls. When they weren't attacking me, they were going 8 mph, and that was what really pissed me off. On the bright side, it was great sprint practice. Due to horrible positioning on my part (I don't know how that happens in such a small race) I got second in the sprint.

The criterium went pretty much the same way as the road race. I covered all the LMC attacks and ended up second in the sprint after the Cumberland girl, who I'd kinda forgotten about at that point. Anyway, I'm racing more consistently than I was last year, so I'm not disappointed in the weekend.

So I spent most of the weekend trying to not be pissed off due to lack of housing, race support, and teammates. I was sick of driving such long distances, sick of cramped hotel rooms, and sick of dealing with LMC. I tried not to think about how LMC gets dinner catered at their hotel at every race and how they don't have to pay for that dinner or gas or housing - their school does that for them. And they don't have to worry about driving to the race and figuring out how to get there - their coach does that.

That's my rant for the week. Now I'm home, and I'm calm. Today I officially switched my major to mechanical engineering, and I got a flip ton of PowerBars in the mail. I got my materials test back (I did well on it), and I finished Hemingway's The Garden of Eden. I was going to try to write this blog entry with a Hemingway-like edge to it, but I failed miserably. I guess it's just not my style."

Dear Jackie,

You may want to rethink in the future when you complain in a public forum such as your blog about others.I feel that you really portrayed me and my team mates in a very negative light.

I know that when I go home and race USAC and don't have a team to race with; it can be very frustrating being ganged up on by bigger, and more well supported teams. But in reality, thats the nature of the game we play.

I know that when I was accepted to Lees-McRae three years ago, my biggest worry was "oh my god how am I ever going to pay for this". Like many of my team mates, I had to take out massive loans to pay for the education I am now recieving. I was also accepted to UMass as well, and almost went, but I was more interested in the small class academics at Lees-McRae. Naturally I am a little hurt when some one attacks me or people close to me for having a catered meal (its cheaper to feed more people that way) or staying in a hotel, or not paing for gas, when instead, I am paying 27,000 dollars a year in tuition as (compared to some state schools, its a pretty penny) but for the education, I think it is worth it.

I guess I am really sad to see you express the views that you did about me and my team mates. I suggest getting to know us a little bit more before you do so again in the future, I think you'll find that we are a pretty likable and postivive group of people.

in case you didnt hear i semi landed the hotchkiss account- i got the poster and the postcards. thats about 1500 worth of work and if i can sell them on my flash then i can hopefully get some flash work out of it too. that would be pretty danged baller.

talking alot to my regular season team, coachchris.ca/ted velikonja pretty pumped about getting up there to race- it sounds like my first big race is going to be ontario track championships, that will put me as working for my team mates so i am pumped. I think that the best part of all will be that the track is ten miles from my door ALL SUMMER! and rochester is only two hours down the road- it also sounds like some potential racing at t-town.

in the hotel now- cant wait for tomorrow i felt like m form was really coming around at the crit last weekend, and since i had a pretty restful week due to the large amounts of work i had to pump out this week- i am really hoping to be crusing this weekend.

The last few days have been awesome. I've been getting some really great training in and i can't wait till my form finally starts coming around. I thought it was poking its head out at the app state crit when i got fifth but maybe its not quite ready yet.

anyways- rode with kacey and lobster and got a good little ride in almost 2.5 hours in on thursday.

kacey won. dont ask me.

lobster had pinchers.

then kristi and i went over to scott and katies again for dinner- katie made some amazing ass lasagna. i dug it.

well yesterday around 2:30 we hit the road for auburn. got in the van and had some awesome van time.

oh yeah van time. and of course scott fell asleep...

so we rolled up to the race this morning souther alabama- and let me tell you what. flat as a pancake in the middle of nowhere. i mean the middle of no where. we were parked at an outdoor kind of factory that made wooden pallettes. heres lobster with

we all rode well in the TT and worked our asses off in the road race.i somehow found myself in the solo early move AKA the first mile and i got my gap up to like a minute and a half about. it came back though sadly a little while later and then i just started helping the team to pepper the field with attacks. and we blew the race all to hell, only eleven people finished.- we almost got the win for T- money but he got nipped at the line- it alluded us for yet another weekend- eventually we are going to hook everything up and things are going to just fall into place like a well oiled machine and- click we'll have our win. if any team can get it its us i swear. we have the enthusiasm and the desire for sure-

ok its been a week and I havent updated.

Easter break was pretty sweet got some racing in at app pulled a fifth in the a race. best collegiate result so far (the one before that was a sixth place)

anyways ill let the photos on my phone tell the stories of the last bit...

what better way to start off a big photo laiden blog post than with a picture of christopher consorto

during the course of the past few weeks the plumbing has run amuck in my dorm. i guess the water temp regulator exploded allowing the water to rise within the pvc pips to over 200 degrees. this in turn melted the pvc through out the building and resulted in pretty much a steady state of boiling hot waterfalls coming out of the season at completely random places.

then I made the "special ops" team that went to the north georgia race for a day rather than the USAC racing that the rest of the team did. we pretty much did it just for the team time trial.

Then tornadoes came and they cancelled the race in the afternoon. even after we all got ready and warmed up in the rain. i dont think sean was happy about the cancellation.

Johnny d and i were loving the tornado conditions though. totally ready to rock.

so we rolled back to the van and packed it up

and we began the long drive up to salisbury for the next days USAC race

people in south carolina love their peaches (did i mention we we driving through tornadoes?)

they also love their tobacco.

we got into our hotel half way to the next days race and hit the sack.

The crit the next day was a bitch. super windy with a hill. total tail wind up the hill. the thing that sucked the hardest was the fact that the field was STACKED. we just went hard all damned day. didnt make it all the way through but oh well.

Kristi,3p0,iron mike, liv and I went over to katie and scott's on thursday night and totally rocked out with a home cooked meal

Katie let me cook in her kitchen but i don't if she liked it, thank god i pulled off a good dish.

if your from lees mcrae you know how this scene works - C3p0 had i think 3 beers and he was feelin alright. but in a good way, he just nerded out about soil animals and then fell asleep on the couch. we all love him.

HOW TO GET FAST BY SCOTT JACKSON

the night before las i went over to scott's to chill with him again. iron mike came too, we were going to bring desert IE ice cream but scott said that he wayed ONE HUNDER AND FORTY TWO POUNDS so sadly he didnt want us to bring him ice cream. so i brought him a fine budwieser forty ounce to help him lighten up for the next mornings weigh in.

yesterday i went for a glorious ride with iron mike in total about three and a half hours.

on the ride i introduced mike to my sprint work out partner beethoven. he may look big but damn can he move.

today in class cole really busted out all the equipment. we got to use the xl2 here i am standing next to it!

wooty and i were boomer and mixer respectivley, here we are rockin the casbah.

-all in all things have been moving along pretty well, form is starting to come around and things are really lookin up.

I'm also dying to get to canada, looks like my team is really starting to get going. the team is going to be awesome because everybody seems really young, and super enthusiastic. I got my whole UCI license in order and now all i need is to get up there!

The Prodigal Son

For those of you who have been reading a while you will remember that last summer, I planted a basil plant from seed and raised him up to be a still very small but much larger basil plant. He affectionately gained the name of Basil Museeuw after the famed classics rider Johan Museeuw.as you can see my plant and Johan look just alike.
anyways, back to my story. Basil Museeuw's life has been a catalog of ups and downs. He came to Lees-McRae with me this fall the biggest he has ever been, naturally over the summer I had plenty of time to take care of him, put useless shit in his pot (which i still do), and make sure he got plenty of sun. However naturally over the course of the fall semester I regressed back to my normal busy college student ways and didn't really have the time to look after him, after almost killing him by leaving him in the schools green house figuring that who ever watered the other plants would water him as well, Kristi more or less got on me for not taking good care of him, and thus between the two of us (he spent Christmas break with her) we have managed to keep him alive but have not managed to return him to his original splendor.

today, hopefully, that may all change. I pruned basil down a lot, and by a lot i mean the below picture is the part of him that used to be connected to basil in the above picture.
thats right this "sprig" used to be attached to the top of Basil Museeuw. But I cut the little fucker back and hung this bit up to dry.

now here is the main question: Do any of you my readers know if this is enough to make pesto with, or am I going to need auxiliary basil? To give you and idea of the scale of this, the little white dot at the top of the stem is a regulation size thumb tack that i am using to hold him up to dry him.

Kristi and I in our boredom also picked up a little green house garden thinger that we are going to try growing.
In other news I have gotten back on the bike after almost a week due to a fever/flu/pukefest that i couldn't seem to shake. I really am feeling super motivated after that, even in just my daily life i now feel much happier to know that, hey, i could be lying in bed sweating and shivering non stop rather than enjoying the beautiful weather we have been having down here in north carolina. and let me tell you it has been nice.

Tuesday I got about an hour in (I switched days around on my schedule). Yesterday however I went for a glorious ride, in which Scott Jackson, Kevin, Trent, and myself SHREDDED it up and down 19E for three hours practicing team time trial for the upcoming weekends race. it was great and it felt really good to be back on the bike riding with jackson and kev, although i'm not back to 100% i felt really good and strong. I think when i get up to Canada i'm going to be going really good.

All I can think about as of late is racing my bike and the things surrounding that. as my last post showed I got sick, and that sucked, however I am feeling much better and deffinitley am thinking that things are really starting to roll along now.

Any ways, what I was trying to get at:

1) As is obious I have changed some things around here at the old blog. I think it looks fresh and new, don't you?

2) With spring comes collegiate racing, and while I have been racing and my season has been underway for almost a month now, I feel that I haven't been blogging about it enough. So look for more updates with more pictures in the future and even potentially some video.

3) My mom gave me her old phone which is going to help me in taking more pictures and video.

so i am stuck here over spring break. and sure enough i got sick. fuggin achy and tired and shit. and its just pouring rain outside. and we have no water in our dorm.

but i did make some killer dinner tonight for myself and randy savage and john doyle. made it in the velodrome bowl.

then after that i collapsed on the couch in the common room and watched cops.

and that was pretty much all i had the energy for today. aside from that i layed in bed and stared at the cieling and talked to doyle some.

i am so fugging exhausted, i just feel like shit...

maybe i feel good tomorrow....

well enough bitching. time for bed.

racing with a college team

i've officially started racing with the collegiate team again. this weekend was pretty sweet. had ALOT of free time on my hands as we had to be on sight for the races really early in the morning for the lower category races and then because i was racing the pro race in the afternoon i was just sitting around waiting all day for my race so i of course entertained myself. this week it was photographing my team mates jumping eachother with the mini bike.

in all it was a good weekend with the team scoring fourth place finishes both days. saturday was tough but i felt good sunday.

just to clarify, this is a project i had for my web design class, had to put together a properly filmed for web short film, and compress it the right way and such. went with the black and white to get the file size down. thinking it came out pretty well..

raced on sunday at NC state. did ALOT of work at the front. dont think i really realized just how much i did. my handling skills are still good- although i will admit i plan on fine tuning them this weekend at the pro race... didnt feel really all that positive about the race until scott jackson told me that from his perspective i was rockin it. think i probably just had a bad case of the early season jitters and after talking to ryan bodge and hearing that there is always a crash- which there was.....i was a little skiddish and tried to stay at the front- which kept me out of trouble- however- it also didnt do anything for my finish- but for the team i did do alot of blocking and that did help sean and mike to do well (sean got second).
